The
Proact Methodology - 2. Baseline Assessment
Baseline Assessment involves the analysis of the Enterprise's capabilities in the current state. It is conducted to identify opportunities that will improve capability areas that are under-performing. It also provides input for considering the reuse of existing capabilities, where appropriate, to develop target architectures. This may be Enterprise-wide or within a designated area that is pertinent to the client's focus. Using the Proact Toolkit, current capabilities are captured, aligned, and categorized in accordance with the associated reference model. This provides revealing clarity where diverse and overlapping solutions exist.
The
Proact Methodology does not encourage nor require the creation of
"as-is" models in order to proceed with Baseline Assessment
and Target Architecture Development. It is usually sufficient to
characterize the current situation and use the knowledge of subject
matter experts to map the current state to the structure and classification
represented by the associated industry-specific reference models.
In
addition, the intuitive representation of Proact's service
function models makes baseline assessments easy to organize and
conduct. Specifically, each basic service function is identified
as a point of reference for its defined capabilities. After the
appropriate performance metrics and measures are applied to these
functions, the areas that can deliver high-impact business-driven
opportunities become readily apparent.
